Hi Friend
How are you keeping
Winters here and it is more cozy sitting at home tying flies than shivering in the cold river water.
just wanted to tell you about the neighbour of Yellowfish paradise.
If you look downstream of Yellow fish Paradise you will see a beautiful fly fishing spot with lovely rapids / rocks etc.
I enquired of the place from the Y ellowfish Paradise owner and he said 'Stay away' the owner next door is mad with his prices and double charges etc etc. and if he catches you trespassing he will take away your fishing equipment.
I went personally to the owners, a fantastic real old farm couple, Mr and Mrs Strydom, blessed with kindness and was so impressed I have been there a few times evenstaying over from 31 March till 4 April 2010.
It is primitive, in the bush with thorn trees and all, with 3 toilets and a 'donkey' to be fired up if you want hot water for a shower. Which the owner did for us each evening. The toilets were scrubbed each morning, even on Saterday and Sunday morning by a maid and there are plentyfull fresh water taps all over the place.
We loved it being back to basics in the bushveld and will be returning over and over. Have booked a place for the June school holidays to unwind and do some carp fishing (pap gooi)
What is really great is the fact it is NOT advertised. Only a few people know of the spot and if you need something you can climb over the fence and buy it at Yellowfish Paradise's shop. They don't mind the trade.
More important, the tarriff. You won't believe it, only R 30 a day per car. Thats it. Nothing extra for persons etc etc.
Only if you go with a caravan you will pay R30 for the caravan. We were there with our VW Motorhome and only paid R 30 per day.
Way to get there'
When you exit Yellow fish Paradise at the gravel road turn left.
Continue to the T junction at the tar road.
Turn left to Potchefstroom.
Pass the cafe on the right (with a statue of a leopard or something)
down through the dip in the road and on the left is an old shop building. Just after that on the left is the entrance to the farm with a sort of an iron archway. There is only a name on the arch saying Strydom.
Follow the road till you come to two farm houses. The one on the right is the owners.
If you are into modern camping facilities stay at Yellowfish Paradise, but if you want to get into touch with nature, Strydom's farm is the place to go
cheers for eers
