Hi there
I live in Port Elizabeth and have caught a number of nice mussel cracker, poenskop and galjoen this year. However, I would like more information on these species, particularly on how to prepare your bait and tackle. I would also like to hear stories of these fish being caught in order to improve my technique.
Thanks

Some info I found for you...
Wed, 2010-01-20 09:01 — romanHey Peter, being a flyfisherman my experience here is pretty much nil, but searching the net I have manage to find a few quality links that could be of assistance. Also hopefully some members will be posting their catch records for these species soon and this normally provides the much needed insight into improving our techniques.
The sites I have found are as follows:
http://www.gardenroutefishing.com/galjoen%20tips.html
* Good overview of where, how and what to do!
http://www.cellstop.com.na/weather/galjoen.html
* Great info regarding the Galjeon species
Last Note: member Fox appears to be well adverse in this type of fishing and would regard his advice as being best.
Regards,
Roman
Help
Wed, 2010-01-20 07:36 — MellowYellowGuys, I am so glad to see the response to the call for help from Peter. Myself not being a surf nor sea fisherman, I have been asking around and researching as much as possible to try assist here but looks better this way.
I know that one of the main reasons for this site starting was for the common sharing of knowledge. People who's experience far outweighs our own opening the doors for all of us to get out there and be succesfull in catching our mostly elusive quarry.
Fox, Thank you for getting the ball rolling. I hope it continues!
Hi Peter, from personal
Wed, 2010-01-20 04:49 — FOXHi Peter, from personal experience you cannot go wrong with a sardine chokka combo if the small fish dont get to it first, you flap the sardine open and wrap it around the chokka leaving tentcals hanging loose.Cast the bait onto a sand patch between the reef,as for the trace a normal fixed trace would be fine with the hook line in the 60lbs class floro, as for the hook size a 3/0 wide gap type from a popular manufacturer should be fine.
