Cuba or Alaska?

I am in the process of deciding on whether my wife and I should spend our next holiday in Cuba or Alaska.

Both locations have their particular attraction but I am unsure which will be a better destination as I am an avid angler but at 61 years of age I may need to understand the challenge a little better..

I have fished for trout for some years now in both rivers and ponds with great success.

Two years ago I moved on to "Yellow Fish" in the rivers which I really enjoy as they are very illusive and give you a good fight.

Recently hooked into a Barbel (river Catfish) by accident which gave me a torrid time but I have now decided to target this species going forward.

Cuba

The only info I have is what you get from the Tour Operators who of course will encourage you to come no matter what.

I recently received some mail from someone called "ROMAN" who was very enlighting as he has "been there done that" but his input differed substantially from that of some Operators which bothers me.

I responded to "ROMAN" via email but think it went to an operator so if you are out there please respond to this note.

My concern is that the quality of my casting (distance/accuracy) may not be of the level required to be successful at this type of fishing and as I have not targeted "game" fish before.

Alaska

Probably Trout/Salmon are more aligned with what I am used to but not sure if you can gain access to rivers/streams to ex-perience the real deal.

I get the impression from TV shows that you need to fly into the wilderness at great expense to enjoy the experience.

My concern is that my spouse is not an angler so I need to find some balance when choosing the destination.

It is fairly expensive to travel from South Africa so I would really like to ensure that we choose the right destination to achieve both good fishing and a memorable holiday.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
