In my quest to catch as many different species as possible on fly, I set out to target gar pike. I had heard, read and seen a few videos of others catching these somewhat prehistoric looking fish on fly and decided to give it a try. After about half an hour on the water searching for signs of gar pike (looking for their rising or their unmistakable "log" like appearance in the water), I found this pool off to the side where there seemed to be a good dozen feeding just to the side of the main current. Outside temp was a good 28 degrees c, and water temp about 22 degrees c. water viz about 2-3 feet. I tied some flies the night before after researching for commonly used flies for this specie – this really paid off!
Sorry about the blur on some sections, I mistakenly had a macro lens on the one camera, I thought it was the wide angle lens – ah well!
Catch you on the water :)
